Object Description

Wooden marker from the grave of W. H. Dyre, who was buried in Grytviken cemetery in 1846. W. H. Dyre was surgeon on the "Esther" when it visited the island in 1846. Marker was repaired in 1919. Painted white with black lettering but much has flaked away. Marked 'IN MEMORY / of / W. H. DYRE / SURGEON / of / ESTHER of LONDON / JAS CARRICK MASTER / REP 1919 / JULY 1846'.
