South Georgia Museum

The South Georgia Museum is located in the villa at Grytviken on the sub-Antarctic island of that formerly acted as the whaling station manager’s house.

Options for a for a visit to South Georgia are varied. For most it would be on a cruise ship. Vessels make about 60 visits to the island each year.

The museum was established by Nigel Bonner in 1991 as a whaling museum. Its scope now embraces all the main areas of island’s history

Worsley’s Almanac

This nautical almanac was used by Captain Frank Worsley in 1916 to navigate the lifeboat James Caird from Elephant Island to South Georgia to rescue the shipwrecked crew of Endurance.
