South Georgia Museum

The Museum is located in Grytviken on the sub-Antarctic of South Georgia. The territory government (GSGSSI) has responsibility for the operational buildings and infrastructure associated with the museum and owns the museum collection. SGHT manages the museum.

Options for a visit to South Georgia are varied. For most it would be on a cruise ship. Vessels make about 60 visits to the island each year.

The museum was established by Nigel Bonner in 1991 as a whaling museum. Its scope now embraces all the main areas of island’s history

The museum staff keep blogs during the season. See the latest new here and look through all the previous blogs back to 2007.
