South Georgia is a remote island located in the South Atlantic only accessible by sea. There is no visitor accommodation ashore, therefore most people visit by cruise ship or yacht

The majority of visitors arrive at Grytviken on a cruise ship. Vessels make about 120 visits to the island each year, carrying around 15,000 passengers from all over the world. It is possible to charter a yacht from the Falkland Islands or South America or indeed to organise an expedition with its own support vessel.
